In the latest episode of Media Matters on Anfield Index, journalist David Lynch joined host Dave Davis to delve into Liverpool’s transfer strategies, focusing on the potential acquisition of Bayer Leverkusen’s right-back, Jeremie Frimpong.
Lynch highlighted Frimpong’s attacking prowess, noting his impressive tally of 4 goals and 12 assists in the Bundesliga. He emphasised that Frimpong’s style aligns with Arne Slot’s preference for dynamic full-backs who contribute significantly to the offensive phase. Lynch stated, “Frimpong’s attacking numbers are exceptional for a full-back, and his style of play would fit seamlessly into Slot’s system.
Discussing the financial aspects, Lynch pointed out that Frimpong’s release clause stands at €35 million (£29.6 million), payable in four instalments. He remarked, “The structure of the deal makes it financially viable for Liverpool, allowing them to secure a top talent without straining their budget.
Lynch also touched upon the existing Dutch contingent at Liverpool, including Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch. He suggested that Frimpong’s integration into the squad would be facilitated by these connections, stating, “Having fellow Dutch players in the team could help Frimpong settle quickly and adapt to the club’s culture.”
The discussion underscored Liverpool’s proactive approach in the transfer market, aiming to reinforce key positions ahead of potential departures. Lynch noted, “Liverpool are planning ahead, ensuring they have the right players in place to maintain their competitive edge.”
