After the disappointing 0-0 draw between AC Milan and Juventus, Paulo Fonseca spoke to the media and discussed the lack of energy, the Scudetto race and the jeers of the fans after the full-time whistle.

Milan headed into the game knowing that a win was more or less a must, yet they managed to display absolutely zero grinta throughout the 90 minutes. They had just one shot on target and it came in the 95th minute, which says everything about the display.

Speaking to DAZN after the clash, as cited by MilanNews, Fonseca shared his thoughts on what went wrong for the Rossoneri. He also discussed how this impacts the Scudetto, reiterating his belief in winning the trophy this season.

On the fans’ whistles…

“It’s normal when you don’t win after a match like this. Maybe if I had been a fan I would have done the same: it’s not good to come to the stadium and see a show like this. I fully understand the fans.”

On the team’s lack of energy…

“I think it was a very very tactical match, from both teams. We had too much respect for Juventus and vice versa. It was a match without risks. We know that Juve defend very well, it’s not easy to create chances against them.

“We need to attack quickly, but we either didn’t take the risk or we made bad decisions. On the occasions in which we could have done something more, we missed the last pass and didn’t take risks. Defensively we did well, we shouldn’t forget that Juve scored 4 goals against Inter here. But when we have the chance we have to take risks.”

On the courage and the 1v1s that were missing…

“Yes, that’s what I said: we have to take more risks. It seems to me that the team has always had the will to play safe but if we want to score we have to take risks. The feeling I have is that we didn’t take any risks offensively, normally we create different situations.”

On the Scudetto…

“I know it’s difficult for other people, but I still believe in the Scudetto. There are many games to play and many points that teams can lose.”

The feeling is now that the Scudetto train officially has left the station, with the Rossoneri now nine points behind Inter. Napoli will play tomorrow and could increase the gap to the league leaders to ten points, which is very difficult to catch up.
