Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi insists his side’s performance against Napoli has renewed his optimism for the future.

During his latest interview with Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri manager hailed the team’s showing in Sunday’s 1-1 draw.

Napoli grabbed the lead midway through the first half through Scott McTominay.

However, Hakan Calhanoglu restored parity on the stroke of halftime with a stunning long-range effort.

The same player could’ve turned the game on its head late in the second half.

But he failed to score from the spot for the first time since swapping AC Milan for Inter three years ago.

Indeed, it was his first miss in 20 attempts, as the woodwork helped Napoli steal a point at Giuseppe Meazza.

More importantly, Inter failed to leapfrog the Partenopei in the standings.

“Against an excellent team like Napoli, Inter played a great game, which gives me hope for the future,” Inzaghi said.

“There’s a lot of talk about Napoli’s advantage in playing only the league.

“But Conte is coaching a great team, which will be at the top along with the others until the final matchdays.

“He’s an excellent coach and has strong players.

“For the title, all the teams at the top are competitive. It will be a very balanced league, and we’ll see who comes out on top.”

Inzaghi’s remarks couldn’t have been closer to the truth.

Only two points separate the top six teams in the table, highlighting the level of competitiveness in Serie A this term.

After Inter breezed past their rivals en route to their 20th Scudetto last year, the situation has dramatically changed.

Napoli’s resurgence under Antonio Conte is only the beginning.
