Matchday 11 of the 2024-25 Bundesliga season kicked off tonight with table-topping Bayern Munich hosting fellow Bavarian outfit Augsburg at the Allianz Arena.
Scorers: Kane 63' (pen), 90+3' (pen), 90+5
Coming off four league wins on the spin and with a trip to rivals Borussia Dortmund on the horizon after a midweek test against Paris Saint-Germain, head trainer Vincent Kompany looked to keep the Bayern train running smoothly.
Sheer dominance was the expected order of the day, and though the home side ultimately delivered in kind, it did take them until the second half to finally break the deadlock after Kompany’s men failed to see their way past Nediljko Labrović across the first 45 minutes.
Perhaps as expected, it was Harry Kane who would eventually set Bayern off in the 63rd minute with a cooly-taken penalty, putting him one ahead of Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush in the race for the Torjägerkanone in the process.
Apart from a single spell in the first half, Augsburg failed to interrupt Bayern's flow in front of home support.
Bayern extended their advantage to two goals when Kane completed his brace of penalties in the 93rd minute after being brought down in the box by Keven Schlotterbeck, only to complete his hat-trick a minute later with a close-range header.
All told, Bayern supporters may feel cause for concern despite the result after a handful of questionable performances, namely from both Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman.
Bayern now prepare to host PSG on Tuesday evening and a chance to solidify a pathway of progression into the Champions League knockout stage, while Jess Thorup has a week to plan ahead before welcoming Bochum to WWK Arena.
