The January transfer window is closing in, but with Chelsea in such good form, and boasting such a stacked squad, the focus is going to be much more on sales than anything incoming.
Despite a late flurry of activity at the end of the summer, there are still a lot of spare parts at Stamford Bridge, and this winter window is a great chance for them to move on and find a new home, either on loan or permanently.
Poor Cesare Casadei was recalled from Leicester a year ago, just as he was starting to play regularly, and has now had almost a full 12 months in the shadows. It’s no surprise to see rumours linking him with a move elsewhere heating up.
Today CaughtOffside claim that Real Betis are interesting in signing the 21 year old, who has had to make do with cameos in the Conference League so far this season.
Now he’s getting into the prime of his career he must realise that opportunities at Chelsea are always going to be limited given the talent on the books ahead of him, and considering players like Andrey Santos will return from their loans in the summer.
A move to Betis seems possible if they can afford him – we’d expect Chelsea will look to make a profit on the €15m they paid for the Italian two and a half years ago. That could be a stretch for Betis, who will probably at least try to engineer a loan with an option.

Given Enzo Maresca is likely to start playing stronger and stronger teams in the cup competitions as they get to the latter stages, Casadei’s opportunities for minutes are only likely to shrink, and for all parties moving him on in January is the right move.
It remains to be seen who will be willing to take a risk on a player who we’ve still not seen a huge amount of at senior level.
