Slovan Bratislava’s chief scout has confirmed that AC Milan made an offer to sign their talented young winger Nino Marcelli.
Other than Juraj Kucka turning out against his former club, one of the sub-plots to last night’s game in Slovakia became Marcelli. In the build-up it emerged that he is a target for Milan and that a bid had even been rejected for the 19-year-old.
If Marcelli saw last night as an audition of sorts, it would be fair to say that he passed it. He came off the bench in the second half and scored a goal in the 88th minute with a rocket of a finish into the top corner, making it a nervy ending in the process.
In the post-match interviews, the Slovakian club’s Head of International Relations and Scouting – Róbert Vittek – spoke about the negotiations with Milan for Marcelli and the reason why the offer was rejected.
“Kirovski tried personally for Marcelli. The offer was a fixed sum with many bonuses linked to the games played. The total was the amount we wanted, but we wanted something straight away and then the next part,” he said (via MilanNews).
Given his goal and lively performance off the bench, we will now see if another offer is made. The fact that Jovan Kirovski was the one who made the bid suggests it is an operation more for Milan Futuro, given he is the sporting director for that side.
