Manchester City’s 2025 squad rebuild could see an exit for Matheus Nunes, according to a new report concerning the ongoing Etihad Stadium squad analysis.
Officials at the Premier League champions are believed to be eyeing up a major succession of transfer windows in 2025 to ensure that Pep Guardiola’s two-year extension brings about further success for the club.
The Catalan coach has been clear in recent press conferences that this was not the time to bring an end to his tenure at Manchester City, and has been determined to oversee the next phase of the club’s rebuild.
It is widely being seen as the third generation of this City squad, after Guardiola revamped the roster upon his arrival in 2016, before making a significant number of changes in 2019 and 2020, before now targeting widespread alterations in the new year.
And as part of that commitment to change, Manchester City will need to make some big calls across the pitch, including regarding players who have not had the most consistent of opportunities to impress.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Manchester City will consider selling out-of-favour midfield duo Matheus Nunes and Kalvin Phillips as part of their rebuild in the next summer transfer window.
Club captain Kyle Walker and legendary midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will only be handed a new contract at Manchester City if they agree to heavily reduced terms, while the latter is reportedly open to a United States switch.
That feeling comes amid ongoing transfer interest from San Diego FC, who will be involved in their first Major League Soccer season next year, with De Bruyne being eligible to discussing potential transfers from January, when he will enter into the final six months of his deal.
As for Walker, there is ongoing conversation amongst supporters as to whether the time has come to let go of the club’s designated leader having seen his performance standards significantly decrease.
Some have felt that Walker has perhaps overstayed his welcome by one season at the very top of the game, having rejected a move to Bayern Munich following the Treble-winning campaign of 2022/23, and the club having turned down Saudi Arabian interest last summer.
It remains to be seen who Manchester City could turn to in order to replace such a legendary figure within their rearguard, but one name who is understood to have admirers within the club is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.
