Liverpool have officially confirmed that Mohamed Salah has put pen to paper on a new deal at Anfield.
The Premier League’s current top scorer is thought to have extended his eight-year stay on Merseyside until the summer of 2027 to bring to an end a long-running contract saga that many fans feared could have led to a high-profile exit for nothing at the end of the season.
Reports earlier this week stated that Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is also now expected to commit his own future to Liverpool ahead of his previous deal expiring, though Trent Alexander-Arnold looks set to join Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.
Salah’s decision marks an important turnaround, with the Egyptian’s position at the club previously having been subject to significant doubt after he publicly voiced his frustration with the lack of progress in contract talks and stated that he was “probably more out than in” before recent breakthroughs.
“Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football,” Salah told Liverpool’s official website after signing his new two-year extension.
“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.
“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”

Salah has cemented a firm legacy as one of Liverpool’s all-time great players since joining the club from Serie A side Roma in a £34million deal in the summer of 2017, defying his previous struggles at Chelsea to shine as one of the Premier League’s best-ever forwards.
He has scored 243 goals and registered 111 assists in 394 appearances across all competitions so far for the Reds, including 32 and 22 in 45 games this season to lead the top-flight Golden Boot race by six ahead of the injured Erling Haaland.
Salah - who has already won three Golden Boots during his time at Liverpool - is the third-highest scorer in club history behind only the iconic Ian Rush and England 1966 World Cup winner Roger Hunt, while he holds numerous Reds records including becoming the first player ever to score 50 goals for Liverpool in European competition.

His stellar performances have been instrumental in Liverpool’s remarkable first season under Jurgen Klopp’s managerial successor Arne Slot that sees them sit comfortably top of the Premier League table with an 11-point cushion to nearest rivals Arsenal and only seven games left to play this season, starting with Sunday’s visit of West Ham to Anfield.
A title win would equal fierce rivals Manchester United’s English top-flight record of 20 and be their first since they finally ended a 30-year wait under Klopp back in 2020, though Liverpool lost the recent Carabao Cup final to Newcastle at Wembley as well as being beaten by Paris Saint-Germain and Plymouth respectively in the Champions League last 16 and FA Cup fourth round.
Salah - who captains Egypt and has scored 60 goals in 105 senior international caps - has already lifted eight trophies with Liverpool including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup, plus the Community Shield.
He has also claimed a glut of individual honours during his time at Anfield, including two PFA Players' Player of the Year awards, Premier League Player of the Season, two FWA Footballer of the Year prizes and the FIFA Puskas Award.
