Napoli might lose a linchpin in the summer, as Frank Anguissa is leaning toward leaving the team for personal and family-related reasons. He won’t do it for free, even though his contract technically expires in June.

According to Mattia Moretto and Fabrizio Romano (via Europa Calcio), the Azzurri will pick up their two-year option to prolong his deal and then decide what to do with the player. If he doesn’t change his mind in the coming months, they’ll search for the best solution together.

Anguissa has suitors in the Premier League and Ligue 1, but the bids for him would have to satisfy Napoli economically. The Partenopei will also start looking for a potential replacement. Their current deputies Billy Gilmour and Philip Billing, have gotten regular minutes only lately due to some absences. The latter is on loan from Bournemouth with a €10M option to buy.

The Azzurri had been discussing an extension with their staple for a while, but their initial optimism has progressively waned. He returned against Venezia after sitting out two games due to a calf problem. He has been with them since 2021 and has put up 5 goals and 3 assists thus far this season.

Our Take on Napoli and Anguissa

It was a little odd that the renewal talks took a turn for the worse, as his wages are reasonable, and it wouldn’t be a big problem to raise them, but there was a reason for it. There isn’t much they can do, if not trying to persuade or eventually get as much as possible and splurge on a replacement, if he really wants out for motives that aren’t strictly football-related.
