One player who is yet to play this season is young Manchester City winger Oscar Bobb. The Norwegian international went down with a fractured leg following Manchester City’s FA Community Shield win over Manchester United. It was a cruel blow for Bobb who had looked set for a big season after impressing during City’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Speaking in the embargoed section of his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Aston Villa Pep Guardiola has provided an update on Bobb’s recovery from the injury. Guardiola is still unsure when Bobb will finally return from the fractured leg he suffered. Guardiola told the media: “I don’t know with Oscar. Still he didn’t train with the team once, so we will see. I think it’s a question of the bone and when it’s fixed, not in pain, he will be ready. And I think for his physicality with some weeks of training, he will get a little bit his rhythm. Not like we saw in pre-season, but quite similar.”
The injury that Oscar Bobb suffered on the eve of the new season set the tone for what lies ahead for Manchester City this season. After his injury a host of City players have suffered injuries throughout this season. That is part and parcel of the game but Pep Guardiola’s squad has battled injuries all season long. You do get the sense with the value of hindsight that Bobb’s injury was a precursor for what would lie ahead.
The hope is that Oscar Bobb can return in the form he displayed during City’s pre-season. But it is a long road back from a fractured leg so the sooner he is back training the better it will be for Manchester City.
