The official Manchester United X account has revealed the starting lineup that will take on Manchester City in Sunday’s big Derby showdown.
The two crosstown rivals will clash heads at the Etihad Stadium at 16:30 UK time. However, this clash arrives at a less perfect timing for both clubs. The Cityzens are enduring their worst run since Pep Guardiola’s arrival, winning one match in the last 10. On the other hand, the Red Devils are still wandering in the bottom half of the table despite trading the services of Erik ten Hag with Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese tactician has implemented a 3-4-2-1 formation since his first match in charge, and this will be the case once more.
Andre Onana will be hoping to make amends after back-to-back poor showings between the sticks. Harry Maguire will marshall the backline, with Matthijs de Ligt to his right and Lisandro Martinez to the left. On the other hand, Nousseir Mazraoui will be playing in a more familiar role, starting at right wingback, with Diogo Dalot on the opposite flank.

In the middle of the park, Manuel Ugarte will link up with club captain Bruno Fernandes, while Amad Diallo and Mason Mount start in more advanced positions. Finally, Rasmus Hojlund will spearhead the club’s charge after scoring a brace that turned the result upside-down against Viktoria Plzen in midweek after coming off the bench.
On the other hand, Pep Guardiola will be fielding a makeshift formation amidst the absence of a host of players, chief amongst them 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.
Man City XI (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Walker, Ruben Dias, Gvardiol; Gundogon, De Bruyne; Doku, Bernardo Silva, Foden; Haaland.
Man United XI (3-4-2-1): Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez; Mazraoui, Ugarte, Bruno Fernandes, Dalot; Amad Diallo, Mount; Hojlund.
