Gerry Cardinale has been in the firing line lately as things are looking far from good for AC Milan, at least on the pitch. Franco Ordine, the journalist and pundit, has added to the discussion by pointing out the American’s ‘great sin’.

The last few weeks have been a bit chaotic for Milan, between poor performances, Curva Sud protests and questionable comments by Cardinale. Indeed, there is a lack of harmony in the Rossoneri environment and there is no obvious solution either.

Speaking live on Mediaset, as transcribed by MilanNews, the pundit and journalist Franco Ordine shared his thoughts on the matter. He made it clear that Cardinale’s biggest mistake wasn’t firing Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, but rather not replacing them.

“As long as the accounts were in order, while the results were also coming, everyone was full of praise for Elliott, who had restored the accounts that had been reduced to the bare minimum by Fassone and Mirabelli, and so everything was fine. The great fairy tale.

“Today’s problem is this: first of all, the great sin is the fact that you sent Maldini and Massara away and didn’t replace them! It’s not having sent them away, it’s not having replaced them.

“And then there’s the technical problem of the results and subsequently, the choice of collaborators starting from the technical path and ending with the coach, which is another fundamental choice. If you get it wrong, you take the money and throw it out the window,” he stated.

Geoffrey Moncada replaced Maldini as the technical director and Antonio D’Ottavio, previously head of the youth sector, was named the sporting director. It was quite a significant downgrade in terms of experience, in other words.
