A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid was the recipient of a round of painkillers prior to the club’s recent meeting with Manchester City.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Federico Valverde as the player in question.
Valverde of course played a starring role once more on Wednesday night, as Real Madrid booked their spot in the Last-16 of the Champions League.
En route to a 3-1 downing of the aforementioned Man City, the 26-year-old was tasked with filling in at right-back once more.
And to say that he did a fine job of as much would be an understatement, Valverde having continued to shine bright on both sides of the ball.
And yet, as alluded to above, such excellence on the part of the Uruguayan came despite Valverde having not been in optimum physical condition.
As per a report from AS:
‘Valverde received an injection in the upper thigh of his left leg’ prior to kick-off against Manchester City.
The midfielder, in turn, could well be afforded a rest when Real Madrid play host to Girona in a La Liga clash on Sunday evening.
