The brass at La Liga giants are closing on an agreement to add a new left-back to the club’s first-team squad.
That’s according to transfer insider Matteo Moretto of Relevo, who points towards Álvaro Carreras as the player in question.
The name of Benfica standout Carreras has of course proven an altogether prominent one in Spain’s capital over the course of the last week.
This comes amid the understanding that the 22-year-old has been identified as the ideal profile of player to reinforce the left-back ranks at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Carreras is in the midst of another fine campaign in Portugal with Benfica, to the tune of four goals and five assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.
Such exploits have long piqued the attentions of those behind the scenes at Real Madrid, desperate to bring in left-sided reinforcements for next season amid the ongoing fitness woes of both Ferland Mendy and David Alaba.
And if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then a deal for precisely as much appears to be inching ever closer…
As per the aforementioned Matteo Moretto:
‘Real Madrid are very close to reaching a verbal agreement with Álvaro Carreras for a six-year contract. Talks with Benfica are expected to intensify in the coming days.’
