Looking at the Manchester City squad you can see that they will be in the market for a full-back in the summer. Pep Guardiola’s squad does appear to need both a left and a right-back. A player who could play both roles well would almost be the ideal signing in the position for Manchester City. On that front, Andrea Cambiaso is looming as the ideal signing for the world champions. The more you look at what he’d add to the City lineup the more the case is becoming overwhelming that City should move for the Italian international in the summer.

A report from Mike McGrath for the Telegraph indicates that Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso and Newcastle right-back Tino Livramento are players that City are currently monitoring ahead of the summer transfer window. Livramento fits the profile of a Manchester City signing due to his age, talent and potential. But in terms of a player who can fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad immediately and contribute, the case for City moving for Cambiaso is perhaps a stronger one.

First of all, Andrea Cambiaso is brilliant technically. He can play both as an overlapping full-back or can step into midfield in the role Rico Lewis currently plays. Technically and tactically Cambiaso is a superb player. You see that every time he takes to the pitch for Juventus. There is an intelligence to his play that does scream of him being a Pep Guardiola player. Those attributes alone make the case for City to move for the Italian international summer an overwhelming one. But there is something else that makes Cambiaso a player Manchester City should move for.

Andrea Cambiaso can play at left and right-back and that could be key for Manchester City.

Outside of his obvious ability the fact that Andrea Cambiaso is a versatile player almost makes him the ideal full-back for Pep Guardiola’s squad. As it stands currently Josko Gvardiol is Guardiola’s preferred left-back. Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes share duties at right-back. If Manchester City could land Andrea Cambiaso he could play in both positions. For Juventus this season he has played in both positions. You add him to Pep Guardiola’s squad, and all of a sudden, Manchester City has more options at both full-back positions. Cambiaso could make the right-back position his own. The Italian international could also slot in at left-back when Gvardiol needs a rest. Couple this with his obvious talent and the case for Manchester City to sign Andrea Cambiaso mounts even further.
