Where and when is the game?

The final of the Supercoppa Italiana takes place on Monday, January 6 between the winning semi-finalists, Serie A champions Inter and last year's runners-up, city rivals Milan.

The game kicks off at 22:00 local time (20:00 CET) and will be held at the newly-constructed Kingdom Arena, which also hosted both semi-finals.

The 30,000 capacity venue in Riyadh opened in October 2023 and is also the home of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and holds two Guinness World Records: the largest covered football stadium in the world and the highest capacity for an indoor covered stadium.

By virtue of their league finishes, the San Siro co-tenants punched their respective tickets to Saudi Arabia for last week's semi-final clashes.

Inter come in with an extra day of rest on their rivals, having beaten a second-string Atalanta 2-0 last Thursday courtesy of a Denzel Dumfries double.

Milan had a much tougher time of things against Juventus and after trailing early, came out on top thanks to two goals in the closing stages - the first via a Christian Pulisic penalty and freak Federico Gatti own goal.

One player to watch from each team

Lautaro Martínez (Inter)

By his own admission, the Nerazzurri striker is coming through the 'worst period' of his career, having ended a barren run of almost two months without a goal last week.

"I didn't prepare like I wanted to with the little time I had but I feel different now," he revealed. "I feel good now. This was the worst spell but I'm calm. The only thing that matters is Inter winning."

With both Marcus Thuram and Joaquin Correa struggling for fitness, there is an even greater onus on the Inter skipper to deliver.

Yunus Musah (Milan)

It has been far from easy for the versatile midfielder so far in his San Siro spell but a new coach could be the perfect tonic to unlock Musah's undoubted potential.

In a wider role against Juventus on Friday, he performed very well and had a direct hand in the winning goal and his best displays for the Rossoneri have often came on the wing.

He is set to be entrusted from the off again and although the system isn't quite clear, the USA international has all the tools to be a success under Conceição.

Who are the coaches?

Simone Inzaghi (Inter)

After last season’s Scudetto win, Inzaghi has now won it all domestically at San Siro since arriving from Lazio in 2021, including this tournament on three occasions.

In fact, he has won the Supercoppa in every season with the Nerazzurri and in addition to his victories with Lazio, is now aiming for glory for the sixth time in the dugout.

Inzaghi is also just one trophy away from equalling Helenio Herrera and Roberto Mancini as the most successful coaches in the club's history, with both having seven pieces of silverware to their name.

Sergio Conceição (Milan)

The new Milan boss only took charge of his side for the first time on Friday against Juventus, where he saw off his son's side with a 2-1 win on his debut.

Next up, it is another familiar face for him to attempt to overcome - his former teammate Simone Inzaghi, who he spent two separate spells with at Lazio and won five trophies together during their time at the Stadio Olimpico.

"We will hug and he'll be my friend before and after the game," the Portuguese tactician warned. "But during the game, he is an opponent!"

Memorable meeting

In their previous meeting this season, former Milan boss Paulo Fonseca enjoyed the only real highlight of his short-lived time in charge when he led them to a surprise 2-1 win that stopped their dismal recent run.

Just two years ago, the sides met in the semi-finals of the Champions League, with Inter cruising to a comfortable 3-0 win on aggregate to reach the final.

Predicted line-ups

Inter: Sommer; Bisseck, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Çalhanoğlu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Taremi, Martínez.

Milan: Maignan; Royal, Tomori, Thiaw, Hernández; Fofana, Reijnders, Musah; Jímenez, Morata, Pulisic.
