Barcelona are back to the 1:1 rule and are looking into the summer transfer window as the time to strengthen their team even more. They are one of the best teams in the world currently under Hansi Flick, and Joan Laporta wants to strengthen the team even more with big signings in the summer. Spanish news outlet Diario SPORT has reported that Barca are looking to sign Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz in the summer.
The Catalan club do not have a natural left winger, and Raphinha is playing in that position. Although he has been in stunning form this season, he is not an out-and-out left winger. Hence, Laporta and Co. are looking for such profiles in the transfer market, and Diaz is certainly that type.
The Colombian has explosive pace, directness, and a relentless work ethic. Playing for Liverpool, he’s become a fan favorite with his dazzling footwork and ability to score crucial goals. Diaz’s high energy and pressing game align well with the intense style favoured by many top clubs. Barcelona’s interest in him is driven by their need for a versatile, dynamic attacker who can operate on either wing or as a central forward. His flair, combined with his capacity to adapt to different tactical setups, makes him an ideal candidate for revitalizing Barcelona’s frontline in their quest for La Liga dominance.

Diaz has scored 9 goals in 24 matches so far in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. Overall, his goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.51. Moreover, Diaz’s total G/A (goals + assists) is 11 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.62 per 90 minutes. His non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.47.
Barcelona were linked to Rafael Leao as well but AC Milan want €100 million to sell him. Hence, he will be an expensive option for the club. Diaz will cost a lot less than Leao and has a contract with the club till 2027. Diaz could prefer to play for Barcelona, given that they are one of the most iconic clubs in history and very few players can reject an offer from Barcelona. There have been no talks about a renewal for the Colombian. Deco is monitoring the condition for now, and it remains to be seen if Barcelona do make the move for Diaz in the summer.
