Sky Germany reports that Bayer Leverkusen are exploring a deal to sign Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendia on loan for the rest of the season.

It is well known that Leverkusen is looking to boost its attacking and defensive options in this window after injuries in both positions. Yesterday it was reported that Leverkusen are in talks to sign an attacker who will add pace to their attack.

Whether that player is Buendia is yet to be seen. Die Werkself want to bring the Argentine in on a straight loan, while Villa want a loan with an option to buy. Buendia could replace Martin Terrier who is set to miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury.

It was previously reported that Leverkusen have a budget of €20m for this window, but loans are also an option. The attributes of the unnamed player that Die Werkself was in negotiations with was someone who could add speed to their attack, in a similar profile to Dodi Lukebakio. Buendia does not fit this profile but has a similar profile to Florian Wirtz, so may help reduce the burden on him.

If Leverkusen are able to bring in Buendia and another player who is quick to boost their attack, whilst also improving their defence then it would be a very successful window for Leverkusen.
