Bayern Munich have made an informal enquiry to Ko Itakura’s entourage about bringing the Japanese defender to the Allianz Arena in the summer, according to Bild’s Bayern Insider Podcast.
With the likelihood that Eric Dier leaves for AS Monaco when his contract expires at the end of the season, Bayern are looking for defensive options with the Borussia Mönchengladbach player an option.
Although Itakura is on the Rekordmeister’s list, there’s still no concrete offer.
With a contract at Gladbach until 2026, it’s possible that Itakura could leave this summer should the Japan international not sign an extension. As reported last month, the central-defender is delaying extending his contract with die Fohlen which puts the club in a position where they would be forced to sell, or risk losing the player on a free transfer in 2026.
Not only have Bayern Munich shown an interest in signing Itakura, but fellow Bundesliga teams Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen are monitoring the player’s situation.
