City to face Southampton in PL2 play-off final | OneFootball

City’s Elite Development Squad will take on Southampton in the Premier League 2 play-off final.

Ben Wilkinson’s Under-21s – who also finished first in the PL2 league phase – earned our place in the showpiece final last Friday thanks to a 2-0 semi-final derby triumph over Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Southampton booked their ticket through to the final on Monday evening thanks to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace after extra time in their last four clash at Selhurst Park.

After the sides were locked at 1-1 over 90 minutes, Derrick Abu’s 97th minute strike secured victory for the Saints.

The City youngsters finished top of the table in the initial league phase, winning 15 out of our 20 games.

We then navigated our way through a challenging play-off programme, overcoming Liverpool 2-1 in the Round of 16 and Arsenal 3-2 in the quarter-finals – both after extra time – before last Friday’s win over United.

Southampton meanwhile finished seventh in the league stage before then overcoming Leicester 5-3 in the Round of 16 and then defeating Fulham 5-2 in the quarter-finals ahead of victory at Palace.

The final will be staged at the Joie Stadium with the date and kick-off time to be announced in due course.
