Striker Marcus Thuram has received some criticism for his ineffective performance in Inter Milan’s Champions League win over Sparta Prague.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, argue that the Frenchman was hardly a factor in the crunch European clash.

Thuram was in the Inter starting eleven against Sparta yesterday. He led the line alongside his usual strike partner Lautaro Martinez.

Thuram’s presence in the lineup seemed like a blatant signal from Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi that he wanted to win the match at all costs.

Thuram has been a vital player for Inter this season. He remains the team’s top scorer for the campaign.

And the 27-year-old often provides a lot more than goals. With his pace, dribbling ability, and ability to link up with teammates he can be downright unplayable.

Yesterday, though, here was little evidence of any of that from Thuram, however.

The 27-year-old frequently dropped deep. This meant that he was not much of a presence in the Sparta penalty area.

But when Thuram would do so, he was not able to really make the most of any situations.

At his best, the Frenchman is the player to run at defenders and take them out of the match.

But Thuram was not able to be that kind of an incisive attacking outlet for Inter yesterday.
