Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani feels that Inter Milan benefit a lot from having Lautaro Martinez as their captain.
The Albanian international spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after his team’s 3-1 Serie A win over Empoli.
Martinez has certainly become a leader at Inter.
That is evident on the pitch. The Argentine is a player who sets the tone, not just with goals, but also with the way that he links up play and defends from the front.
But there is also leadership off of the pitch from Martinez.
The 27-year-old has now been at Inter for six and a half years. And he has really grown in importance behind the scenes.
One way that Martinez has been important for the Nerazzurri has been his helping new arrivals adapt.
That has certainly been the case with midfielder Asllani.
The Albanian has not had an easy adaptation period. Even two and a half seasons in to his time at Inter, he is hardly a regular starter, and often faces criticism when he does play.
Asllani praised Martinez’s form after the captain scored Inter’s winner.
“He’s doing well,” the Albanian international said. “We’re happy to have a captain like him.”
“In the tough moments, he’s the one who gives the team a boost,” Asllani said of Martinez.
“He’s the one who stands up and speaks.”
“I’m happy to have him,” Asllani said of Inter’s captain. “I’ve known him for three years now, and I’m happy.”
Meanwhile, Asllani also gave his thoughts on his performance in Inter’s win over Empoli this evening.
“I’m happy,” he said of his own display. “But the important thing was the win.”
“We did well,” the 22-year-old midfielder continued. “I know Empoli well, I was there for thirteen years.”
Asllani noted that Empoli “never miss a chance to play their game at the San Siro.”
“In the first half, we weren’t able to find much space,” the Albanian noted. “But then in the second, Lauti broke the deadlock with a great goal.”
In conclusion Asllani stated: “We’re happy, and we take the three points.”
