While it is expected that Manchester City will look to bolster their squad for this season during the January transfer window they may also continue to huis their squad for the future. A rebuild is coming to Pep Guardiola’s squad. That is clear to see. One of those areas that will need to be addressed is City’s defence. Injuries have crippled Manchester City’s defence all season long. The time is coming when they will have to look to add youth to their defensive stocks.
With that in mind, a new report suggests that Manchester City may have identified a young defender who could lead City’s defence into a new era. That player is young defender Juma Bah. Bah has impressed on loan with La Liga side Real Valladolid so far this season. That form has reportedly caught the eye of the Premier League champions.
Alan Nixon has reported via his exclusive Patreon page that Manchester City have their sights set on signing Juma Bah. The Sierra Leonean defender has impressed in La Liga so far this season. Bah is currently on loan at Real Valladolid from AIK Freetong. Nixon’s report indicates that City would be keen to sign the young defender and loan him back to Real Valladolid for the remainder of this season.
Juma Bah has impressed for Real Valladolid so far this season. The young centre-back has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga side. His performances have been impressive especially when you consider he is only 18 years of age. He looks to be strong in a challenge and has a strong aerial presence, which is no surprise given that he is 195 centimetres tall. Bah also is good in possession which is a pre-requisite for a modern-day defender.
If Manchester City could sign Juma Bah next month it appears that he may follow a similar path to that of Claudio Echeverri. Echeverri was signed by the Premier League champions and has continued his development at River Plate. He is set to join Pep Guardiola’s side on January 1st. It appears that Manchester City may have a similar plan in place for Juma Bah if they can sign him next month.
Although signing Bah wouldn’t solve City’s current defensive issues. However, it would give Manchester City a defender they could potentially rebuild their defence around based on his impressive performances in La Liga so far this season.
