Premier League champions Manchester City have been struck with a blow to their primary options in the ongoing January transfer window.

Etihad Stadium officials have been linked with a relatively short list of somewhat realistic transfer targets to approach this month, across numerous positions that have caused problems for Pep Guardiola throughout the season.

In defence, there is a feeling in various quarters that City have a genuine interest in bringing Uzbek central defender, Abdukodir Khusanov to the Etihad’s first-team squad this month from Lens, particularly after the French club’s managing director admitted a sale is likely.

In defensive midfield, in light of Rodri’s long-term absence due to a double knee injury, Atalanta’s Ederson has been sounded out as a high-profile name that could be brought in, but Manchester City know they would have to pay a premium for his signature.

And in attack, there has been conversation that Manchester City are ready to bring in one of Europe’s hottest names, but subsequent reports have significantly shutdown the idea of a move for the player this month.

That is according to journalist Jan Aage Fjørtoft, who reports that Omar Marmoush will not leave Eintracht Frankfurt during the ongoing transfer window, despite being linked with different clubs in England and the latest being Manchester City.

It is further insisted that there will not be any movements until the summer when it comes to the Egypt international among other stars, as Eintracht Frankfurt have their own competitive targets on the field this season.

The form of the 25-year-old has been nothing short of sensational for the German club so far this season, scoring a remarkable 18 goals and providing a further 12 assists across 24 appearances in all competitions.

It is the Egyptian’s Bundesliga record that has caught the most attention, with a staggering 13 goals and eight assists offered to his team in just 15 appearances so far this campaign, leaving Frankfurt in third position.

Any future transfer for Marmoush away from Eintracht Frankfurt would represent huge profit for the German club, after they secured the player’s signature on a free transfer in 2023 ahead of the 2023/24 season from VfL Wolfsburg.
