Liverpool forward Diogo Jota could be on his way to Newcastle United this summer, according to transfer expert Ben Jacobs. The Portuguese attacker, who has two years left on his contract at Anfield, has faced a challenging season marked by fitness issues and inconsistent form. Jota’s future at the club is uncertain, and Newcastle are emerging as a potential destination.

Since moving from Wolves to Liverpool in 2020, the 28-year-old Jota has been one of the best forwards in the Premier League, striking 64 goals in 173 games. But his struggles and limited playing time under Arne Slot have made people think he might leave in the summer.

Speaking to Givemesport, Jacobs claimed that both Newcastle and Wolves are keeping an eye on Jota's situation. However, the chance to play in the Champions League could tip the scales in Newcastle's favour.

""What I can tell you in terms of clubs that are closely looking at Jota, is that you have Newcastle United from the Premier League. A Jota exit is not guaranteed, but there is a realistic possibility that suitors will make an approach to Liverpool to better understand the situation. Wolves may be interested, but Jota wants European and ideally Champions League football. Newcastle may be able to offer him that.""Ben Jacobs

After Miguel Almirón left in January, Newcastle is likely to make it a priority to sign a new attacker this summer. Jota can play both in the middle and out wide which makes him a good choice for Eddie Howe. The fact that Callum Wilson is set to leave, and top clubs are interested in Alexander Isak means Jota could fill a crucial role in Newcastle's attack.

This season, Jota has managed just five goals in 18 Premier League appearances, with his expected goals (xG) standing at 6.10. His limited impact has seen him fall down the pecking order at Liverpool, fueling rumors of a move. Jota himself admitted to a difficult season - “I haven’t been in my best form.”

Although Wolves are also interested, Newcastle may have advantage since Jota desires to play in the Champions League. Should the Magpies achieve European qualification, they might provide Jota the stage he needs to reignite his career.
