Manchester United have confirmed that winger Antony has left the club to join Real Betis until the end of the season.

Antony signed for United from Ajax in August 2022 in a deal worth around £86m – the second most expensive signing in the Red Devils’ history, only behind Paul Pogba.

The Brazilian has returned just 12 goals in 96 appearances for United but has only scored once in the Premier League since April 2023.

He fell out of favour under Erik ten Hag and failed to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans following the Portuguese coach’s appointment late last year.

Antony did not start a single Premier League game under Amorim.

A United statement reads, “Manchester United forward Antony will spend the rest of the 2024/25 season in Spain, subject to international clearance.”

“Everybody at United would like to wish Antony the best of luck for his spell in Seville.”

Betis have also announced the addition of Antony to their ranks.

Earlier today, he arrived in Spain to undergo his medical and told local media, “I’m so happy, I’m ready.”

It’s understood that Betis have not paid a loan fee to sign Antony but Manuel Pellegrini’s side will cover at least 84% of his wages.

Betis also agreed to pay a number of performance-related bonuses. There is no option for Betis to make the move permanent and Antony will return to Old Trafford in the summer for further talks over his long-term future.

Betis currently lie in ninth place in La Liga, having gained 28 points from a possible 63. They’re also still involved in the UEFA Conference League.

Meanwhile, United return to action on Sunday when they face Fulham at Craven Cottage.
