Parma hijack Southampton’s move for Strasbourg centre-back Abakar Sylla

Serie A side Parma looks to have hijacked Southampton’s pursuit of Strasbourg centre-back Abakar Sylla (22), according to L’Equipe. The Saints and Strasbourg were in talks over a deadline-day loan move for the 22-year-old, but the outlet understands that Parma are set to wrap up a loan with an option to buy for Sylla. Southampton’s talks with Strasbourg have reportedly collapsed.

Sylla has struggled to consistently perform for Strasbourg since making the move from Club Brugge, despite consistently featuring for Les Alsaciens. This season, the Ivory Coast international has made 15 appearances in all competitions at club level, however, the recent arrival of Andrew Omobamidele on loan from Nottingham Forest poses a threat to his status at the club.
