RB Leipzig vs. Bayern München preview: Rekordmeister aim to claim back Meisterschale

RB Leipzig are in fifth place with 49 points after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on April 26. They were reduced to 10 men in the 50th minute, trailing 1-0 at that point, and failed to generate any big chances after the red card. Despite Leipzig’s inconsistent form this season, interim manager Zsolt Lőw will still be hoping for a Champions League qualification, as they are just two points behind fourth-placed Freiburg.
However, they are also only two points ahead of seventh-placed Mainz, and any further slip-ups could result in missing European football entirely. Leipzig have been strong at home, losing only once in their last 11 games at Red Bull Arena, winning seven times during that stretch.
Team News
In terms of team news, Leipzig will be missing centre-back El Chadaille Bitshiabu, who was sent off in the previous match against Eintracht Frankfurt, and he joins injured defenders Benjamin Henrichs and Willi Orban on the sidelines. Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi is unavailable due to a concussion, and Maarten Vandevoordt is expected to take his place in goal.
The defence will likely feature Kosta Nedeljkovic, Lukas Klostermann, Castello Lukeba, and David Raum. Midfielder Xaver Schlager is dealing with a hamstring injury and is expected to be out until mid-May, which could lead to Nicolas Seiwald and Amadou Haidara starting in midfield.
Champions-elect Bayern München have been in excellent form, scoring 18 goals in their last seven matches and currently leading the league with 90 goals this season, a record that is at least 24 goals more than any other club in the Bundesliga.
Bayern could secure the title with a victory over Leipzig, but a draw may also suffice if Bayer Leverkusen fail to beat Freiburg on Sunday.
Bayern are unbeaten in their last three encounters with Leipzig, including a dominant 5-1 win earlier this season. However, their recent form has been mixed, with two draws, two wins, and one loss in their last five matches.
Team News
Bayern will be without striker Harry Kane, who has accumulated too many yellow cards, while attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala will also be unavailable due to injury. Veteran Thomas Müller is expected to lead the line, with support from Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, and Leroy Sané.
Defensively, Bayern are facing several injury concerns, with key players like Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, Hiroki Ito, and Kim Min-Jae all sidelined.
Due to this crisis in the backline, full-back Josip Stanisic may be forced to play as a central defender alongside Eric Dier, while midfielder Konrad Laimer could be deployed at right-back. Backup left-back Raphael Guerreiro is also ready to step in if needed.
