Former RB Salzburg defender Oumar Solet finally made his Serie A debut for Udinese this evening and assures this is just the beginning. ‘I know that I can do better than this.’
The centre-back turns 25 next month and had been a free agent after the termination of his contract with RB Salzburg in September.
He was spotted in the stands of the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine in September and then was training with the squad, but was only able to formally register for the club in January.
Surprisingly, Solet was thrown straight into the starting XI for this evening’s 0-0 draw away to Hellas Verona.

“I’m happy to have started today with this club. I hope to play more games and I would say today we take this point, even though we deserved all three,” Solet told Sky Sport Italia.
“I will always try to improve, I know that I can do better than this.”
Solet was a product of the Stade Lavallois youth academy, then flourished at Olympique Lyonnais before his €4.5m transfer to RB Salzburg in the summer of 2020.
His contract with the Austrians was terminated by mutual consent with a year left to run.
“I’ve been training with the guys for two months, I see how we all work together and I think we have the quality to achieve some great things, but we will take each game as it comes and see what we can do,” continued Solet.
“I hope we will try to pick up the most points we can for the rest of the season.”
Udinese were only able to manage a 0-0 draw away to Verona, despite the hosts going down to 10 men for the final 20 minutes at the Stadio Bentegodi.
“We tried until the last minute, hopefully the goals will come in the next game. We deserved to win, unfortunately we go home with only one point.”
