Goalkeeper Josep Martinez will face his toughest test yet in today’s Serie A clash between Napoli and Inter Milan.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, suggest that how the 26-year-old reacts to the pressure could be a big sign for his Nerazzurri future.

Goalkeeper Josep Martinez will be in the Inter Milan starting eleven against Napoli this evening.

The Spaniard has already started the last two matches for Inter. Yann Sommer has been out after undergoing thumb surgery.

Martinez kept clean sheets against Genoa in Serie A, and Lazio in the Coppa Italia.

The former RB Leipzig and Genoa keeper made particularly notable saves on Caleb Ekuban and Gustav Isaksen.

So far, therefore, Martinez has shown why Inter have put their faith in him as Sommer’s successor.

This evening will be an entirely different kind of test for Martinez, however.

The Spaniard will undoubtedly have felt a certain emotional pressure in making his Serie A debut for Inter against his former team Genoa.

And the match against Lazio saw the Nerazzurri penalty are come under a fair bit of pressure.

But all of those matches were at the San Siro.

This time out, by comparison, it will be at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. That will hardly be the easiest stadium for Martinez to make his first away start for Inter in.

Martinez has so far shown that, beyond his shot-stopping ability, he is capable of responding to pressure as he’s unexpectedly filled in for Sommer.

Now, the Spaniard will have the chance to demonstrate whether he can rise to the biggest occasions.
