KAA Gent and Wouter Vrancken have decided to part ways by mutual agreement. As per the club’s website, “Both parties emphasise that these discussions were very constructive and in the best understanding. This decision was taken in full consultation and with the greatest mutual respect for each other.”

Gent currently find themselves in sixth place in the Belgian Pro League, with four points separating them from fifth-placed Royal Antwerp and fourth-placed Anderlecht. The news arrives after the Buffalos drew 1-1 with eighth-placed Charleroi. Again, via the website, the manager’s departing words read:

“I would like to thank Sam, my staff, the players and all employees of KAA Gent for the past period. The club and I have taken the decision together to end our good cooperation prematurely. In this way we want to create a new drive to maintain the position we have and possibly improve it. This decision should be able to optimize this. Thank you.”

Sam Baro, chairman/owner of KAA Gent, said:

“We have consulted extensively on several occasions in a very constructive and mutually respectful manner in order to arrive at this joint decision.

Together with all the employees and players of the club, I would like to thank Wouter for the past period. We appreciate his incredible commitment and dedication as a person and as a coach. We wish Wouter every success in the future.”
