In 2023, Dinamo legend Mislav Orsic joined Southampton following an impactful World Cup campaign. Though the move didn't prove significant, Orsic feels no regrets reflecting on it.
Transfers in Football, especially Premier League have been an integral way to strengthen one's club. At Southampton, it's not been any different either.
Notably, in players like Virgil Van Dijk and Sadio Mane, Southampton has made various brilliant signings in the past years.
Certainly, all these players helped the club improve in many ways. No offense to them, still, no one's signing made the club honored instantaneously.
But, the player whom we talk of today is one of the very rare in Southampton's history, who the Saints would be proud to have signed. It's Croatia's World Cup hero Mislav Orsic.
Dating back to January 2023, Dinamo legend Orsic was fresh from a brilliant World Cup campaign. Interestingly, he signed for the Saints to try out his fate in the Premier League.
Still, little did one know it would prove to be a perfect player but poor timing case. In his six-month spell at St. Mary's, Orsic made just 5 appearances for Southampton before moving to Turkey.
Now naturally to anybody, the move seems to be a failed transfer. Surprisingly enough, the winger isn't willing to consider the move that way to date.
Recently, in an interview with Croatian newspaper Večernji list BiH, Orsic admitted he has zero regrets about that Southampton move.
As quoted by Sport Witness, mentioning his Southampton tenure, Orsic said: "Unfortunately, some things in that story didn’t sit well with me. I guess that’s how it had to be. It will remain a memory that, in my own way, I was part of the strongest league in the world"
Well, that's the mentality that differentiates legends from good Football players.
To say the least, in Southampton's history, influenced by the likes of Matt Le Tissier, Alan Shearer, and others, Mislav Orsic will have a small cameo chapter forever.
