Arsenal have had a frustrating Premier League campaign due to multiple injuries, and they are playing catch-up with Liverpool at the top of the table.
The Gunners are six points behind the Reds for the top spot, but the Merseyside outfit have a game in hand against Everton.
The London giants have been tipped to sign a new striker, but The Athletic claims there is little encouragement that Benjamin Sesko could join them.
The Slovenian ace turned down the Gunners to sign a new contract last summer, and RB Leipzig are reluctant to lose him as they aim for Champions League qualification.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha has been highlighted as an alternative. Arsenal has admired the Brazilian star since his days at Atletico Madrid.
He has been in a contract stand-off with Wolves but won’t come on the cheap. It could cost around £70 million to prise him away from the Midlands outfit.
Sesko has been Arsenal’s main striker target for some time, but a deal seems unlikely at the moment as he is not pushing for a mid-season transfer.
This has spread speculation that Cunha could emerge as the prime target. The 25-year-old has been in good form in the Premier League with 10 goals and four assists this term.
He is primarily a centre-forward but has impressed as an attacking midfielder during this season.
Cunha, described as a ‘special player‘ by Wolves manager Vitor Pereira, would be a good mid-season signing for the Gunners.
However, the big question remains whether they are prepared to make a huge outlay of £70m to secure his services.
