Since leaving FC Barcelona for Celta Vigo, Oscar Mingueza has grown into one of La Liga’s most reliable right-backs, even breaking into the Spanish national team this season.

The Blaugrana were briefly linked with a possible move to re-sign the versatile defender but that does not appear to be on the agenda.

However, Barcelona are closely monitoring Mingueza’s situation as Premier League club Aston Villa are eager to sign him.

€10m timely boost for Barcelona?

As per SPORT, Aston Villa are highly interested in signing Mingueza and are prepared to pay his €20 million release clause.

The Villans’ sporting director, Monchi, has already advanced negotiations, and manager Unai Emery is eager to bring the former Barcelona star into the squad for the second half of the season.

When Mingueza transferred to Celta, Barça included a clause entitling them to 50% of any future sale – a condition that the Galician club accepted.

As such, if Aston Villa proceed with the €20 million deal for the Spaniard this month, Barcelona would receive €10 million, a timely financial boost for their winter transfer plans.

Barcelona need the revenue

Back operating under La Liga’s 1:1 spending rule this month, Barcelona could reinvest the entire €10 million from Mingueza’s sale directly into acquiring a new player.

This revenue could be instrumental in securing Marcus Rashford, whom Manchester United are willing to loan for six months.

The English forward’s wages for this period would total €3 million net, a feasible sum for Barça given the potential funds from Mingueza’s sale.

Rashford is said to prefer a transfer to Barcelona despite having several other suitors and Mingueza’s potential move to Aston Villa could spark a chain reaction leading to the Manchester United man arriving in Catalonia.
