Bayern Munich are expected to make changes in central defense next summer. They will sign a new center-back since Eric Dier is expected to leave Munich at the end of the season. The English defender has hardly played for Bayern Munich this season.
Dier’s contract at Bayern will expire at the end of the season. As things stand, Bayern are unlikely to offer him a new deal. There is significant interest from the Premier League in Dier when his contract expires in Munich.
According to TBR Football, Brighton, Brentford, and Wolves are interested in signing Eric Dier at the end of the season. Die Roten have not made a final decision on Dier, but he will have to leave Munich to get consistent game time.
Bayern signed Dier from Tottenham Hotspur in January when they needed urgent reinforcements in central defense. After spending 10 years at Spurs, Dier signed an initial six-month contract with Die Roten.
The English defender hit the ground running at Bayern. Thomas Tuchel made him part of his first-choice center-back pairing during the second half of last season. Dier excelled in central defense alongside Matthijs de Ligt. The 30-year-old central defender ended up playing several games, which activated the option of extending his contract until 2025.
After the arrival of Vincent Kompany, Dier has struggled to play regularly. The Belgian coach’s preferred center-back pairing is Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano. Courtesy of the injury to Hiroki Ito, Kompany has hardly rotated in central defense. Dier had to be content with minutes from the bench. The Englishman has started only one game this season. Unless there is an injury crisis, Dier is unlikely to play an adequate number of games under Kompany.
Bayern are expected to sign at least one center-back next summer. They remain interested in signing Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen. The German defender will be available on a free transfer next summer. Die Roten face competition from Real Madrid and FC Barcelona for the signature of Tah.
Rekordmeister also tried to sign Ronald Araujo from Barcelona in January. The Uruguayan defender could become an option for Bayern in the summer, while the Bavarian club is reportedly keeping close tabs on Benfica’s Antonio Silva.
