One of the key positions that Barcelona intend to strengthen in the summer transfer window is the right-back slot.
While Jules Kounde has excelled as the first choice, Hansi Flick has not been fully convinced by Hector Fort as backup and has even resorted to using Eric Garcia as makeshift in the Frenchman’s absence.
It is true that Garcia has delivered beyond expectations as a right-back but signing a natural player in the position remains a key objective for the summer.
As has already been reported, Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong is someone who generates total consensus within Barcelona as far as right-back targets are concerned.
However, in a concerning development for Barcelona, Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool are advancing in talks to secure the signing of Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

The Reds are in the market for a new right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid in a free transfer. As such, Frimpong has emerged as one of the targets for the new Premier League champions.
Now, it is claimed that Liverpool are making progress in talks to acquire the Dutch right-back’s signing. Indeed, they have approached Leverkusen to discuss the payment structure for the player’s €35 million release clause.
On top of that, progress is being made in negotiations with Frimpong’s camp, with the Dutchman understood to be keen on making the switch to Anfield.
So, there is a serious threat of Barcelona losing out on the right-back’s services, much like with his Leverkusen teammate Jonathan Tah, who appears to be on his way to Bayern Munich despite previously having a verbal agreement with the Catalans.
