TBR Football has reported that Manchester City are interested in securing the signature of their former player, Douglas Luiz, in the transfer window. He has failed to cement his place in the Juventus lineup under Thiago Motta, and hence the Serie A club will look to sell the player if they get good value for him.

Pep Guardiola has been on a spending spree in the ongoing January transfer window, with players like Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis being the ones who have made the move to the Etihad. However, City are still expecting the signing of Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Now, City want to reinforce their midfield options and have contacted the entourage of the Juventus midfielder Luiz. The club sold him to Aston Villa for £15m to Aston Villa in 2019. He ahs performed really well in England but hasn’t been able to make it count in Italy.

Why do City want to sign him?

City have struggled in the midfield since Rodri’s season-ending injury and hence wants to sign a midfielder. Guardiola sees Luiz as the perfect option and profile for him in Rodri’s absence. The Serie A side had earlier rejected a move but now might want to offload him for a good offer given that he has not flourished in Turin. They can also let him leave on loan with a mandatory clause of buying him after his loan ends.

Douglas Luiz has taken four shots in 12 matches so far in the Serie A 2024/2025 season. Of the four shots, one shot was on target, and the other three shots were off target. That means that his shooting accuracy is 25.00%. He has not scored any goals or provided any assists this season.

Arsenal and Tottenham have also been keeping tabs on the player. However, City will definitely be the favourite destination for the Brazilian to move to in the Premier League. Rodri is not playing for City in the current scenario, and the club might feel that Luiz will be a better option for the club in the place of Mateo Kovacic. The Brazilian will be looking to get ahead of Kovacic if he signs for City.
