Szczesny explains difference between Juventus and Barcelona: ‘Contagious joy’ | OneFootball

Former Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has explained the main difference between life representing the Bianconeri and life in Catalonia with Barcelona, where he has become an increasingly important figure in recent weeks.

Szczesny spent seven seasons with Juventus between 2017 and 2024, and originally announced his retirement from the sport after terminating his Bianconeri contract at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

His retirement was short-lived, though, as he came back to sign for Barcelona as a free agent following an injury to club captain Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in October.

While Inaki Pena was given a run of games in goal immediately after Ter Stegen’s injury, Szczesny has become the first-choice since the end of January. The Pole has played in the last 13 matches across LaLiga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, and has kept three clean sheets in his last four league matches.

Speaking to Polish network Eleven Sports (via La Gazzetta dello Sport), Szczesny has recently explained the main difference between representing Juventus and Barcelona.

“At Juventus, you mainly focus on results, while at Barca, there is a contagious joy for football,” the former Bianconeri stopper explained.

“And it doesn’t surprise me that millions of fans follow this approach,” he continued. “What makes me more happy than anything in Barcelona is the emotion connected to football, a completely different feeling to what I’m used to.”
