Atlético Madrid star to play final home game for the club vs Real Betis | OneFootball

A veteran member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid is set to bring a close to his time with the club this summer.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards César Azpilicueta as the player in question.

Former Chelsea man Azpilicueta has for his part played something of a bit-part role at the Metropolitano this season.

Owing to a combination of injury problems, and competition for places, the Spanish international has managed starts in just 10 of Atlético’s 36 La Liga fixtures.

In turn, it should not come as a major surprise to hear of the two parties preparing for an imminent parting of ways.

As per a report from the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano:

‘César Azpilicueta will play his final game at the Metropolitano this Sunday, not extending his contract with Atlético. Azpi won’t return to play for Premier League clubs out of respect for Chelsea.’
