Barcelona president Joan Laporta this week made use of the opportunity to aim a less than subtle jibe at arch rivals Real Madrid.

This, of course, comes fresh off the Blaugrana wrestling back Spanish football supremacy from Carlo Ancelotti’s troops.

Barcelona last week put the finishing touches on what has been a remarkable campaign in 2024/25.

With the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup already in the bag, the Catalans put Espanyol to the sword by two goals to nil, in the process securing the La Liga title.

Lengthy celebrations, in turn, were kicked into gear across the city of Barcelona over the last week.

And with this as the backdrop, the aforementioned Joan Laporta on Monday evening sat down for an interview with Spanish outlet TV3.

During the sit down, the Blaugrana president was drawn on a whole host of topics, one of which came in the form of the standard of refereeing in La Liga this season.

And Laporta, as alluded to above, made use of this opening to take aim at Real Madrid, indirectly labelling Los Blancos ‘victims’ in explaining:

“There is a committee of clubs to improve the refereeing issue. We are not part of this committee but we are invited and we will contribute our part. But being victims has never worked for us, there is a sociological madridismo. There has been a smear campaign with the Negreira issue that will end in acquittal. That’s why it’s been the most difficult season, also because of the issue of registrations. Our recipe is: football, football and football. Historically, Barça have had to be much better to win titles. And this season has been a good example.”
