Argentine giant Boca Juniors continued their brilliant run of form of late after a consummate 4-0 thrashing of visiting Defensa y Justica.
Scorers: Cavani 9', Giménez 32', 50', Merentiel 82'
Fernando Gago's men got off to a dream start on the night through Uruguayan icon Édinson Cavani after Carlos Palacios picked out the big striker to put Boca one-nil up inside ten minutes.
Despite the opening strike, it was hardly an all-Boca affair across the first half at La Bombonera, but a key second goal for Xeneize did well to guarantee a result in the capital.
A sweetly struck effort from Milton Giménez in the 32nd minute extended Boca's lead after the midfielder rifled past El Halcón goalkeeper Enrique Bologna into the top corner, gifting Palacios a brace of assists in the process.
Giménez only needed five minutes after the restart to complete his brace on the night while putting Gago and company out of sight, this time helping Lucas Blondel add his name to the match report with an assist to make it 3-0 with plenty of time to spare, with Boca looking a more polished article.
Miguel Merentiel would add his name on the scoresheet to confirm that the route was on, finishing from a tight angle to make it 4-0, with Exequiel Zeballos also getting in on the action with an assist of his own.
It was a huge win for Boca on a night that would see them temporarily restore their status at the top of the Apertura Zona A pile, extending their winning run to six in the process.
