Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor says that she is expecting a different game against Everton this weekend.

The Blues take on The Toffees in a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Kingsmeadow seven days on from their 4-1 victory over the same opponents in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

When speaking to the media ahead of the latest meeting, Chelsea boss Bompastor said that playing the same opponent back-to-back can be challenging and that she expects a different game this weekend.

“It’s always difficult to play a team when you also played them last week,” Bompastor said. “I think the game will be completely different.

“Going into the game, we expect a tough game. Last week, they were leading 1-0 and we were able to come back but it’s a tough game again; it’s a new opportunity for them to beat us and an opportunity for them to take their revenge.”

Going on to discuss the potential differences this weekend, Bompastor said that her side are prepared for every possible scenario.

She said “We always expect different scenarios and one could be that they are more proactive in the game, maybe putting more high pressure on us. That can be one of the options but my job for the game on Sunday is to ensure that we anticipate that and we are ready for every scenario, even if we mainly want to focus on ourselves and how we can perform.”

Chelsea have had the luxury of a game-free midweek to prepare for the fixture and that’s something that Bompastor believes has brought benefit.

She said “For sure, it is always good to have a free week to prepare. It gives you more time to work on tactics and your game model. This week, we have been working on our game model in and out of possession and it’s always good to have the opportunity to work with your team.”
