A dreadful Premier League season could not have gone worse for Manchester United as they fell behind early into the game against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. Yet they escaped with a draw, thanks to Evanilson’s red card in the second half and a last-gasp equaliser from Rasmus Hojlund.

Below are the Manchester United players rated in their 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.

Andre Onana: 6

Could not have done much to stop Antoine Semenyo’s strike that went past the struggling Cameroonian custodian following a slight deflection that came off Casemiro. Was lucky not to concede when Dango Outtara hit the woodwork from a thumping free-kick.

Leny Yoro: 7

Had some nervy occasions against Outtara and Milos Kerkez. But the French teenager handled the pressure with his positioning and movements from the right-hand side of United’s three-man defence.

Harry Maguire: 6.5

Despite a spirited show, the veteran Englishman was often found out of depth in the heart of the backline. The swift transitions, crosses and cut-insides from the Bournemouth attackers troubled him time and again. Was taken off for Victor Lindelof midway through the second half.

Luke Shaw: 7

Was fit enough to start for the first time this season. Featured as a left centre-back but was on his toes against the swift link-up play between Semenyo, Justin Kluivert and Evanilson. Played his part in the build-up of Hojlund’s equaliser.

Noussair Mazraoui: 7

The versatile Moroccan was deployed as a right wingback. However, he offered little attacking threat and was primarily confined to his defensive duties to deal with Kerkez’s overlapping runs. Made way for Chido Obi-Martin around the 76th-minute mark.

Casemiro: 6.5

Another below-par performance from the Brazilian, who failed to control the tempo deep down the midfield. Kept on losing possession, thus allowing the home side to stage attacking threats using the pockets and spaces in the centre of the pitch. Was taken off to be replaced by Manuel Ugarte minutes over the hour mark.

Kobbie Mainoo: 7.5

Looked sharp in midfield with his smart one-twos, flashy footwork and box-to-box runs. Carried the ball forward from the deep to create chances high up the pitch. Made way for Mason Mount midway through the second half.

Patrick Dorgu: 7

Lost possession during the build-up of Semenyo’s goal. Was combative down the left-hand flank as the young Dane used his pace to whip in a few crosses and create chances for the visitors. Was taken off for Christian Eriksen in the closing minutes of the contest.

Alejandro Garnacho: 7

Had an impressive start with his flair and directness in and around the attacking third. Saw several attempts blocked by the resolute Cherries’ defence. Was also denied once by Kepa Arrizabalaga, as he failed to beat the Chelsea loanee despite having him one-on-one.

Bruno Fernandes: 8

Worked extremely hard to lift the team’s performance by tracking back, making tackes and recoveries deep down the pitch. Had a few exquisite long-range efforts late in the game.

Rasmus Højlund: 7.5

Was mostly isolated while spearheading the attack. But he slotted home with a sharp finish to salvage a point from another disastrous outing.

Victor Lindelof: 6.5

Dealt well against Bournemouth’s occasional counter-attacking threats.

Mason Mount: 6.5

Added more firepower in the Red Devils attack. Was lively with his runs, passing and shooting traits.

Chido Obi-Martin: 6.5

Forced Kepa to make a save late in the match.
