With the first stage of the Champions League coming to an end, the purses of each of the Serie A teams have been calculated and AC Milan are lagging behind.
The Champions League is the biggest chance of financial gain for Italian teams, and Milan have performed magnificently recently to maximise profits after a difficult opening two games. With their place in the Round of 16 reliant on a positive performance in Croatia, let’s take a look at the finances earned so far.
Starting with Croatia, reports have suggested that a win against Zagreb could earn the Rossoneri almost €25 million, which would be a substantial aid in the battle for Santiago Gimenez. Though, of course, not all of the funds would go to the transfer kitty.
Qualification via the top eight would see the total purse earned so far sit at €73m, as Gazzetta dello Sport reveals. This is made up of ~€18m for the market pool, €4.5m for ranking, €10.5m for results and then €18.6m, which is the fixed participation share.
This figure of €73m stands at less than Inter (€85m) and Atalanta (€77m), due to their market pool and ranking intakes. However, the Rossoneri have pocketed more than €12m more than Juventus, but if the Bianconeri qualify for the round of 16, their total would be €76m, €3m more than the Diavolo.
Bologna rank last with €30m, which could rise a little, but not by much.
