After making the trip to Serbia’s capital for a Champions League meeting with Red Star Belgrade, the Blaugrana ultimately emerged on the right side of a 5-2 result.

The aforementioned Lewandowski for his part featured from the off in the clash, chipping in with two of his side’s five goals.

Amid a busy run of fixtures at present, though, the Polish international was hauled off a little over ten minutes from time.

And, owing to as much, Lewandowski was denied the opportunity to hit an altogether noteworthy goalscoring mark – a century of Champions League goals.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at the Red Star Stadium, the subject of as much was, in turn, put to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick.

And the German tactician went on to admit that, had he been aware of what was at stake for his star frontman, he may not have substituted him:

“If I’d known Lewandowski was at 99 goals, maybe I wouldn’t have substituted him.”
