Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed he expects Chelsea youngster Kendry Paez to go on loan next season.

The Blues agreed a deal worth £17m with Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle in the summer of 2023 and he will officially become a Chelsea player this summer.

Paez has been at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground and with Strasbourg as he undergoes an adaptation phase to European football.

Romano on Paez

Chelsea have heavily targeted the South American market under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, and with Paez and Estevao Willian they have arguably signed the two biggest talents from the continent.

Paez already has 17 caps and two goals for Ecuador despite his tender years, and he plays alongside current Chelsea ace Moises Caicedo in the national team.

The teenager is set to feature at the Club World Cup this summer, but Chelsea’s plans for him next season aren’t fully clear.

However, Romano has now shared his opinion on the youngster and stated he believes he will go on loan next season.

When responding to a question on Threads about what will happen with Paez he simply said:

“I expect Kendry to go on loan.”

Paez is an attacking midfielder, who can also play centrally and on the right, and it will be interesting to see what position Chelsea see him playing.

The Athletic reported the Blues see Paez as an understudy to Enzo Fernandez, and it will be fascinating to see how that would play out.

Paez has been linked with Strasbourg, but nothing has been confirmed, although if Chelsea and their sister club end up in the same European competition they won’t be able to loan players to each other.

The Ecuadorian clearly has loads of ability, but it will be down to Chelsea to chose the right loan move for him and provide an environment and pathway in which he can reach his full potential.
