Serie A champions Inter have compiled a two-man shortlist to replace long-term absentee Francesco Acerbi this winter. According to Sport Mediaset via FCInterNews, Ardijan Ismajli and Sam Beukema top Beppe Marotta’s wishlist.
Inter boss Simone Inzaghi and club directors could hold an emergency transfer summit soon to discuss potential January moves. Acerbi suffered a thigh injury in November. Despite Nerazzurri’s expectations, the 36-year-old has yet to return to the fold.
Acerbi’s recurring injury problems have forced Inter to reconsider their transfer stance this winter. Inzaghi’s side initially had no intention of signing new players midway through the season. However, the Italian veteran’s absence has left Inzaghi short of reliable defensive options.
Therefore, Inter have scoured the market for potential emergency signings. Bologna’s Beukema has emerged as a concrete target. Given the good relationship between the clubs, the Dutchman’s switch to Giuseppe Meazza is a distinct possibility.
Yet, Vincenzo Italiano holds the 26-year-old in high regard and may try to block the transfer. As such, Inter have a contingency plan in place. Ismajli has been Empoli’s defensive stalwart in recent campaigns. But his contract at Stadio Carlo Castellani runs out at the end of the season.
That means Empoli won’t sanction a loan move. It also means Inter could sign the 28-year-old on a favorable terms. Meanwhile, they’ve recently intensified their pursuit of Dinamo Zagreb prodigy Petar Sucic to strengthen their midfield options.
Considered one of Croatia’s brightest prospects, he’d reportedly cost Inter up to €12 million.
