Inter will have to wait until Friday to learn the full extent of the damage suffered by captain and starting centre-forward Lautaro Martinez during the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona on Wednesday night, but Thursday’s reports suggest that the Argentine is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Lautaro injury leaves Inter worried for Barcelona second leg

The first leg of the Champions League semi-final between Barcelona and Inter ended level at 3-3 after goals from Marcus Thuram, Denzel Dumfries, Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres and an unfortunate Yann Sommer own goal, forced by a Raphinha rocket.

In worrying scenes for the Nerazzurri, however, Lautaro appeared to be struggling with a thigh injury for the final minutes before half-time.

The Argentine had his head in his hands, but was able to continue until the interval. He did not re-emerge for the start of the second half, though, and was replaced by Mehdi Taremi for the second period.

When will Lautaro Martinez learn the extent of his injury?

According to reports from various outlets in Italy, Lautaro will report for medical examinations on Friday, which means that there will be no major updates on his condition on Thursday.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, however, that Inter will require a ‘miracle’ in order to have Lautaro fit in time for the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona on Tuesday.

The Pink Paper suggests that there are fears of an injury to Lautaro’s flexor muscles, which could rule him out of action for around two weeks.
