Liverpool are a well-oiled machine this 2024-25 season, but the Reds didn’t see any action this weekend. As a result, they’ll head into the first leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes rested or perhaps rusted.

The Reds had one more Premier League match during the week before they can entirely focus on the first leg. Liverpool are coming off a 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night at Anfield, so they’ll be heading into Paris riding positive momentum.

PSG are also coming off an impressive 4-1 win over LOSC Lille where the capital club scored four first half goals.

Does Liverpool have a weakness PSG can exploit?

Now that it’s full steam ahead for the first leg clash in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Football Transfers’ Robin Bairner wrote in his latest column for PSG Extra Time the two players that can exploit one weakness in the PSG squad over the 180 minutes to give the Ligue 1 side a chance to advance.

Bairner believes that Liverpool’s full-backs can be a way for PSG to hurt Liverpool, and he first elaborated on Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“Liverpool might not have much of an Achilles heel, but the areas that they have been most susceptible to being exploited this season have been down their wings,” Bairner wrote.

Salah is given a free ride defensively on the right, leaving Trent Alexander-Arnold exposed at times. Trent, of course, is not the sharpest defender in terms of his positional awareness, so there will be an onus on Bradley Barcola or Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to exploit this.

The football writer then mentioned that Ousmane Dembele can take advantage of Andy Robertson.

“Similarly, Andy Robertson’s campaign at left-back for Liverpool has question marks over his long-term future at the club,” Bairner added. “He’s looked far from his sharpest at the back, and with Ousmane Dembélé still in red-hot form, this is an opportunity that PSG will surely seek to exploit.”
