Paris Saint-Germain took a short-term approach by loaning Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig for another season, but the uncertainty about his future has now been resolved, with the German club securing him for the long term.

Back in September, Christian Falk reported that Manchester City and Liverpool were closely following Simons’ situation. Earlier in the summer, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Manchester United had also shown interest, reflecting the Dutch midfielder’s growing reputation among Europe’s elite clubs.

In recent weeks, CaughtOffside also reported that Manchester United have a strong chance of beating local rivals Manchester City to Simons’ signature next summer.

Sport Bild reported that Leipzig had hoped to make Simons’ move permanent as early as January. While PSG’s €80 million asking price initially posed a challenge, it appears that issue has been resolved, with Simons staying with the Bundesliga side.

Even though Leipzig signed Simons this January, journalist Christian Falk reports that they’re open to selling the Dutchman in the upcoming summer window.

Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City are all keeping an eye on his situation, which could also catch PSG’s attention, given their sell-on clause.

Recently, RMC Sports’ Fabrice Hawkins reported on Thursday that Simons chose not to return to PSG last summer after his loan at RB Leipzig because Luis Enrique couldn’t guarantee him regular playing time.

As a result, PSG turned their attention to Désiré Doué, who they secured from Stade Rennais last summer.
